The Poems
The following poems are a small sample of the many that have been written in support of Ukraine. They are powerful and moving expressions of hope, solidarity, and peace.
"For Ukraine" by Ilya Kaminsky
In the black earth of Ukraine, where the wheat fields once waved, now there are only graves. The sun has turned to blood, and the moon to tears. The wind whispers of death, and the birds have stopped singing. But we will not be silenced. We will raise our voices, and we will sing for Ukraine. We will sing for the mothers who have lost their children, for the fathers who have lost their wives, for the children who have lost their homes. We will sing for the soldiers who are fighting for freedom, for the civilians who are suffering under siege, for the refugees who have fled their country. We will sing for Ukraine, until the war is over, and the peace is won.
"Stand with Ukraine" by Amanda Gorman
In the face of darkness, we stand with Ukraine. In the face of tyranny, we stand with Ukraine. We stand with the mothers who hold their children close, with the fathers who fight for their freedom, with the children who dream of a better future. We stand with the poets who raise their voices, with the artists who paint the truth, with the musicians who sing for peace. We stand with Ukraine, until the war is over, and the peace is won.
"A Prayer for Ukraine" by Wendell Berry
O God, who made the world, and all that is in it, look with favor on Ukraine. Heal the wounds of war, and comfort the suffering. Give strength to the weak, and courage to the afraid. Guide the leaders of the world, that they may work for peace, and justice. And grant us all the wisdom, to know what is right, and the courage to do it. Amen.
These poems are a testament to the power of poetry to express our deepest emotions and to bring people together. They are a reminder that we are not alone in our support for Ukraine, and that we will continue to stand with them until the war is over and the peace is won.
